Impulse, the renewal of a working place

The Impulse project transforms an existing office building located on Place de la Gare in Luxembourg City. It reflects STDM’s approach of considering existing buildings as valuable resources and extending their life cycle through targeted interventions rather than replacement.

The transformation adapts the building to contemporary requirements while preserving the qualities of its existing structure. Internal circulation has been completely reorganised to connect the building’s two wings, giving all users access through a common entrance on Place de la Gare. The office floors have been made more flexible, allowing between one and three rental units per level and enabling future adaptation over time.

The building’s considerable depth is addressed through a careful redesign of the façades, complemented by the introduction of patios and light wells that improve daylight penetration and increase the amount of naturally lit floor space.

The thermal envelope and building services have been entirely upgraded to meet current energy performance standards while being discreetly integrated into the existing architecture. A new façade combining stone and glass gives the building a renewed identity while integrating harmoniously into the urban setting of Place de la Gare.

By preserving most of the existing structure and limiting interventions to what is necessary, the project significantly reduces the consumption of resources while providing the building with renewed flexibility and long-term resilience. It extends the building’s service life and creates healthier, more comfortable and adaptable working environments for its occupants.
