Pointe Est – Kuebebierg District, Luxembourg
STDM was selected by the Fonds d’Urbanisation et d’Aménagement du Plateau de Kirchberg and Güller & Güller Architekten as the local partner for the design and implementation of this project.
The Pointe Est project, as envisioned by Güller & Güller Architekten, marks the strategic gateway to the future Kuebebierg district in Luxembourg, located at the intersection of Avenue du Kuebebierg and Boulevard Frieden. It is situated on a 3,697 m² plot and entails the development of approximately 29,200 m² of gross built area, including residential units, an active ground floor, technical facilities, and bicycle parking spaces.
The development consists of four residential buildings arranged around a landscaped central garden— a true heart of the block—offering visual and physical connection to the protected Märtesgrond valley. This generously planted garden serves as a calm oasis and social space for residents. It is accessed by a monumental staircase from the public realm, extending the topography and lush character of the adjacent natural site.
The buildings rest on a double-height active base that accommodates a flexible artisanal hub as well as the district’s energy center. Designed for versatility (office, craft, retail), this base reflects a desire to reintroduce productive uses into the heart of the city, in direct connection with the residential fabric.
The buildings rise to varying heights (from ground floor +5 to +17 levels), allowing sunlight penetration and preserving open views while creating a dynamic skyline for the district. The typological diversity of housing—duplexes, triplexes, townhouses, and work-life units—addresses contemporary living challenges: single-parent families, shared living, aging populations, and lifestyle diversity. In accordance with the “Pacte Logement 2.0,” 20% of the homes will be designated as affordable housing.
The project embraces a sustainable architectural and construction approach, based on the use of bio-based materials (timber frame with mineral cladding), the optimization of natural inputs (light and ventilation), and a rational structural grid ensuring floorplan flexibility. A shared rooftop vegetable garden complements the range of communal spaces and strengthens collective engagement within the development.
Pointe Est stands as a pilot project of mixed-use, sustainable, and innovative urban living, reflecting the spirit of the Kuebebierg district—an urbanity oriented toward the future, combining density, quality of life, and respect for the landscape.
