The Niki Bettendorf Sports Centre and Education and Care Facility in Bertrange is conceived as a key public development, bringing together sports infrastructure and childcare functions within a coherent architectural composition.
The project is organised in two phases: the construction of the sports hall, including a multipurpose hall, ancillary spaces and an extension to the municipal administration offices; followed by the development of the Education and Care Facility. Both entities are articulated within a single volume forming a backdrop to the existing Town Hall. Set back and lower in height, this new structure expresses a contemporary architectural language while respecting the existing built fabric and surrounding landscape.
The design takes advantage of the natural topography to accommodate a dense programme on a constrained site. The vertical organisation of the building allows for a clear separation of access and circulation flows: athletes, spectators, children and staff benefit from distinct entrances. The sports hall is arranged over three levels, with a partially underground multipurpose hall, a semi-buried multisports level, and a ground floor accommodating the bar and spectator seating.
Directly accessible from the shared space, the building features a main entrance on the forecourt as well as a secondary access at a lower level, in direct connection with the Pétrusse valley.
The Education and Care Facility is distributed over four levels organised around a central core containing service spaces. The upper floors accommodate the care units, while the roof level is designed as a playground, providing additional outdoor spaces partially sheltered by a canopy.
